Hi Pals, I’ve been frequenting Canberra for a while now seeing as a few of good friends live up there. I kind of want to move to Canberra – the people are friendly, coffee is good and there is a hella good all vegan cafe called ‘Sweet Bones‘ up there too. The last time I was there was for Nika’s birthday and Chola’s art show. We figured, we all had some spare time so why not make it a road trip back to Melbourne.

Nika’s Birthday was held out in Kangaroo Valley, which is about 2 hours drive from either Sydney or Canberra. It’s loaded with lovely landscapes, some waterfalls and has a pretty decent pub, The Friendly Inn Hotel
We were staying at Nika’s Grandparents house, which is filled with beautiful surroundings and occasionally, the odd wombat would come wandering in. The only thing about places in the outback – you’ll find cicadas and they.are.the.worst!
The trip back to Melbourne we’d heard of a place called Cactus Country.
⏰ 9:00 – 17:00
💰 $15 AUD | $12 USD
Cactus Country has a cafe on site, garden and store. They sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic margaritas which you can walk around the cactus gardens.
There are different themes and coloured llama paths – which are filled with 4000 types of cacti, spread over more than 8 acres.
You can also buy little clippings of cacti to take home!
One of the best things to see in Melbourne is The National Australia Gallery. It has a free permanent gallery, separate exhibitions and one of the most visited at the moment is the NGV Triennial. If you’ve been seeing giant sculls on Instagram, that’s where you’ll find them. Not surprisingly, I managed to miss that room??
