While my friends were off doing something for the day I decided I’d venture off for a day trip to Himeji and Kobe. It’s quite close from Kyoto with a JR pass and to be honest, I didn’t even plan Himeji until I heard it announced over the speaker and decided to continue to Himeji and go to Kobe on the way back.
August was pretty fantastic. I spent my time doing the following;
– Mario kart tour of Tokyo, Japan.
– Seeing my friend who I last saw in Bolivia four years ago!
– Having brunch with my Uncle and Aunt.
– Spending the day exploring The NSW Art Gallery and having great coffee & cake with my favourite gal pal!
– Having a Twitter meet up & winning $10 on a scratchy.
Check out my favourite August photo moments below!
When you think about Torii shrines in Japan, one of two places will come up: Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto (check my post here) and the iconic Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima.
Itsukushima is known as Miyajima which literally means “shrine island.” Said that when you die your soul will cross over via boat into the next world. I can’t suggest going to this little off the track island from Hiroshima enough! It’s ended up being one of my favourite places within Japan so far!
I was recently able to return to Hiroshima after winning a competition for free flights with Japan Airlines. They’ve just released a new direct route from Melbourne – Tokyo and believe me, it was one of the best flights I’ve taken. A little care package, snacks, decent food and a range of entertainment options (opinion my own).
Last time I was in Japan I wasn’t able to make it to a few places in Hiroshima or Miyajima (at all) due to lack of time and opting to check out Bunny Island instead. This time around, I was ready to have a full two days doing this area.
