Melbourne: Coffee and Smashed Avo.

Hi Pals,
There was an article that came out in 2017 advising that the way us millennials (born: 1981-1996) aren’t able to buy houses, is a simple reason: Avocado On Toast. The article, “If you want a house, stop buying avocado toast” suggested that if we simply just stop eating out; we could have a deposit on a house (might also have to stop buying books and plane tickets.)
I mean, they could be right but I also love going out for brunch and I pretty much always order the smashed avo.

With that, Here are 7 Melbourne CBD Cafes that offer good smashed avocado and even better coffee.

Brick Lane Melbourne

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 16:00 | Sat + Sun: 8:00 – 16:00
📍 33 Guildford Ln.
💰Coffee: $4.00 | Smashed Avocado: $19.00
With a neon sign that’s hard to get in photos, the smell of baked bread and plants sprawling over the walls, The Brick Lane offers everything you want.

Cherry and Twigs.

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 16:00 | Sat + Sun: 7:30 – 14:00
📍 1b/555 Flinders Ln, Melbourne
💰Coffee: $4.00 | Smashed Avocado: $16.00
Cherry & Twigs is such a hidden gem. The staff are wonderful, the atmosphere is sweet and they do a really mean (brilliant) coffee. They’ve got this large wooden tree wall feature that stretches up and hangs off the roof. The hanging lights and a large centred table makes you instantly feel at home. Although I like their smashed avo, the waffles really hit the mark.

EuroLane Cafe.

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 16:00 | Sat + Sun: 8:00 – 16:00
📍16/18 Centre Pl, Melbourne
This cafe is within Centre Pl, the connection from Flinders to Little Collins if you go via Degraves. I like to call this the Poorer Degreaves. Mainly because I think the prices are slightly cheaper. If you read reviews on this place, you’re not going to want to go but honestly, I love it. The owner is abrupt, to the point and means business. It’s got fresh OJ, almond milk for my coffee and a real decent avocado smash. Everything I want.

Krimper Cafe

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:30 – 17:00 | Sat + Sun: 8:30 – 16:00
📍 20 Guildford Ln,
Krimper is set in an old warehouse with exposed bricks, low lights and an old lift car within the middle. Located in one of my favourite laneways, apart from the sign outside – you would not even notice Krimper was there.

Manchester Press.

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 17:00 | Sat + Sun: 9:00 – 17:00
📍 8 Rankins Ln, Melbourne
💰Coffee: $4.00 | Bagels: $16.00-$19.00
📝 Does not split bills.
Manchester Press pretty much always has a line if there are 2-3+ of you. The large scale paintings hanging down seem to widen the space if anything. There is this one warehouse door that just shows jars and jars of pickles. Its coffee is great, the food specialises on bagels but they also have acai bowels, toasts and muesli bowels. The only dislike; pickles. Everywhere, pickles.

Mock Turtle Cafe Bar

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 16:00 | Sat + Sun: 8:00 – 16:00
📍 34 Degraves St, Melbourne VIC
💰 Coffee: $3.80 | Smashed Avocado: $18.50
Mock Turtle is my personal favourite within Degraves. Their take on smashed avocado is interesting, they have good coffee and the inside is supposed to look like a turtle (personally, don’t see it.)

⏰ Mon – Fri 07:00 – 16:00 | Sat + Sun: 7:30 – 14:00
📍 1 Exhibition St, Melbourne
💰$11.00 AUD Smash Avo + $4.50 Large Coffee.
The Vacation sits on the corners of Exhibition x Flinders in a low ceiling pastel coloured space. The off white, archways, blue details and abstract tiled floors can only remind one of Spanish Eclectic architecture in the Americas. It’s small, but the open space works well and the menu is no frills. If you like their coffee – you can grab it too. They sell coffee as whole beans, espresso, stovetop and plunger.

Do you spend too much money on Smashed Avocado?
Do you think you’ll try one of these cafes?

As Always,
Stay Cool.
